I know I’m not exactly prompt with making this post on Long Beach Comic Con which was way back in September. I mean this is why I said I suck at running a news blog. Long Beach Comic Con was supposed to be the founding post for my blog but unfortunately various things got in my way, most of it was at the time I didn’t actually own the domain for this site yet.

Anyway back to Long Beach Comic Con, this was actually my first year attending this event. I almost went last year but something came up and I couldn’t go. I almost didn’t want to attend this year since at first glance it didn’t seem all that appealing to me. The guests of honor were like 75% of the cast of Firefly which was a show I was never really into. I tried watching both it and the follow up movie, Serenity and I thought it was okay but I didn’t think it was as good as some people made it sound like. In the end I thought “what the hell?” and ended up going and it turned out to be one of the more enjoyable events I’ve ever attended and I look forward to going again next year.

In the mean time here are some of pictures I shot.

Enjoy!

Walking around trying to find the line to get in I saw this cool mural painted on one of the walls of the Long Beach Convention Center.

We spent about an hour on the other side of the Long Beach Convention Center looking for the line to get in. When we actually figured out where the real line was it was freaking long as hell. Luckily I saw somebody in the middle who I knew who was cool enough to let us cut behind them which shaved a good 40 minutes off our wait. Sometime between that and when we actually got in this chick who was dressed as David Bowie’s character, Jareth the Goblin King from Labyrinth ended up behind us.

Outside the Con they had wide array of replicas of pop-culture vehicles.

Here’s Herbie the Love Bug.

KITT from Knight Rider

A Ferrari 308 GTS done up to look like the one Tom Selleck cruised around in on Magnum P.I.

Since this was around the time when Pokemon Go was still relevant there were quite a couple Pokemon-themed cosplayers. Here’s a couple whom came as Ash and Misty.

Artist, Mike S. Miller was there selling prints.

Here’s a Slimer action figure that caught my eye.

This guy had a pretty good Green Lantern costume.

Here’s some DragonBall Z cosplayers. Goku I got right away but it took me a few seconds to figure out that the other girl was Shenlong the Dragon.

Artist Will Terry was also on site selling artwork.

The 501st Legion had a pretty significant presence at this Con there were so many guys dressed up as Storm Troopers, Clone Troopers, and even a few Imperial Pilots.

Here’s a guy who was Russell from Up.

Here’s some water color work by Geoff Pascual. I really like his style.

This is a pretty good Rogue.

Hollywood Harley Quinn aka Dani Sciacca as sexy Harley Quinn? I don’t know.

This guy was really dedicated to the Spiderman costume. When I asked him for a pic he insisted on posing.

I’m pretty surprised I ran into Starship Troopers cosplayers since the original movie came out like 20 years ago and the last direct to DVD sequel came out in like 2009. Although here’s a fun fact, the mobile infantry costumes from Starship Troopers were reused in Power Rangers Lost Galaxy.

Mad-Eye Moody from Harry Potter.

Johnny Depp Willy Wonka from the Tim Burton Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

I never saw the Warriors all the way through so at first I didn’t know who he was supposed to be. When I first saw him he wasn’t wearing a shirt underneath his vest and had what I thought was the Blue Sun logo tattooed on his chest. It was a good guess considering like I said earlier the cast of Firefly were the special guests. Although looking back now I think it wasn’t the Blue Sun logo but instead the logo of King Kai from Dragonball Z. Anyway after seeing the back of his vest and a quick glance at Google I realized this guy was Cleon, the leader of the Warriors.

After a few hours we decided to leave the convention center and find a Chipotle or something to eat (I really didn’t feel like buying an overpriced and really nasty hot dog or nacho plate). Anyway while we were wondering outside I ran into this Pyrenean Mountain Dog named Sir Griffin the Great dressed as Falkor the Luck Dragon from The Never Ending Story.

While still looking for that Chipotle I met this guy who was wearing a really good Batman v. Superman Batman suit. If I remember he said he carved it out of foam. Funny story, when went back to the convention we saw him wandering around and like 10 feet away was this kid who also decided to dress as the Batman v. Superman Batman but that kid’s costume wasn’t quite that great.

When we returned to the front door I saw these three Super Mario princesses.

Some Harry Potter cosplay. Luna Lovegood and I’m not sure who the other dude is. I know he’s not one of the Weasleys or the guy who played the sparkly vampire from Twilight.

Members of the R2D2 Builders Club was there. While I saw some of their real R2D2 robots I saw 1 of them driving this K’Nex version around. I guess he was just using it as a demonstration of what kind of mechanics go inside of their R2D2s.

Flash! A-ah! Savior of the Universe! I was quite surprised that Flash Gordon aka Sam Jones was there since he wasn’t listed on the website as a gift. He was there along side Kevin Conroy the voice of Batman from the ’90s Batman the Animated series and a Power Ranger. I was really tempted to get a picture and autograph but he was charging 60 bucks for them. Although when he had some downtime I did walk passed him and say “What’s up” and he responded with a “How you doing?” So I guess I got something out of it.

I thought this Batman/Minion outfit looked really cool.

I found Waldo!

Here is a Disney version of Big Hero 6’s Honey Lemon.

The EI School of Professional Makeup was on site. Here they are doing what I think is a Thundercats-themed setup with a Chetara and gender-reversed Skeletor.

Rorschach from Watchmen.

Dale, Carol, and I think Andrea from Walking Dead.

These 2 girls did a really job as Tiny Tina and Lilith from Borderlands 1 and 2.

This guy in the inflatable tyrannosaurus costume had a nice touch with the little girl. Pretty much anytime somebody asked them for a picture the girl would pose with that look of fear on her face.

A really good Mary Jane cosplay by Autumn La Barbera.

Right now I’ll close this out with this final shot of these Wolverine-themed cosplayers I met outside. I’m not sure if they were together or if they just bumped into each other and decided to pose together outside. Anyway we got X-23, Daken, Domino from X-Force and Wolverine from Old Man Logan.
