Sideshow Collectibles is a staple of my convention experience, with a significant presence at almost all of the conventions I’ve been to over the years. Hell, I remember when I was doing my coverage from San Diego Comic Con 2019, they had such a huge activation set up that I almost had to split it up into 2 parts.

Looking back at what they had at San Diego comic Con 2022, they didn’t have as big as a presence as they did in the past, although at this point it’s really not much of a surprise, I’ve been saying it ever since conventions opening back up again—this is just how things are in a post-COVID 19 era. Although I think part of this is just me being more aware of what I’m seeing and paying more attention to companies, and knowing what they bring out. In the case of Sideshow Collectibles, they’re not just a manufacturing company, they’re also a distribution company, and just because something may come in a Sideshow Collectibles bag, doesn’t necessarily mean that they made it—especially if it has somebody else’s logo on it.

Before I get into the pieces that Sideshow brought out with them, I do want to say that I was a little disappointed that a huge bulk of their stuff was based on movies/television. Showing off pieces that are modeled after movies and TV shows is a good way of showing off their attention to detail and manufacturing skills since it gives them a consistent look to copy, whereas in comic books characters can look very different depending on which artist is drawing them, which in turn can lead to some very different looking pieces. However, I think focusing on movie/TV portrayals can limit their creativity and catalog, because there are so only so many different variations of a character you can pull out of a TV/movie-especially if it’s live action.

Star Wars

Boba Fett as he looks in Star Wars: Book of Boba Fett.

The Bad Batch from the streaming series of the same name.

Cad Bane from Book of Boba Fett.

Din Djarin’s Naboo N1 starfighter

Considering that this thing had 2 info cards in front of it I’m pretty sure the Din Djarin and Grogu figures don’t come with it.

A Battle Droid, Death Trooper, and some Clone Troopers.

A set of Grogu/Baby Yoda statues depicting his

Marvel

War Machine. The chest piece almost looks translucent which kind of bugs me.

Iron Man Stealth Armor. Note the distinctive faceplate on this one. I just wanted to point out how different it is compared to other Iron Man armors. It almost looks like Ultron.

Miles Morales’s 2020 suit which looks very Daft Punk-inspired.

Miles Morales Purple Reign Suit.

Steve Rogers in the Hydra Stomper armor from What If?

Phoenix looking like she’s about to go all Dark Phoenix with a Jean Grey wearing the bodysuit from the ’90s X-Men cartoon.

Hulk versus Iron Man in the Hulkbuster suit.

Lizard as he looked in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The damaged Iron Man illusion that Mysterio projected to Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Speaking of Spider-Man: Far From Home, here’s that movie’s version of Mysterio.

Venom and Carnage as they looked in Venom: Let there be Carnage.

Iron Man in that big machine he used to put his armor on in the first Iron Man movie.

Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Scarlet Witch in 1 of her iconic costumes.

Wolverine: Ronin which I believe is an original creation from Sideshow.

Here’s Spider-Man from Spider-Man: No Way Home with his advanced spidersuit fighting Dr Octopus’s tentacles.

Psylocke with a katana and psychic knife.

Storm wearing her famous white costume from X-Men #1, volume 2.

DC

Here’s Hal Jordan and his nemesis Sinestro.

Joker and his new henchwoman, Punchline.

The Dark Knight Rises version of Batman with his EMP blaster and Bat-Pod.

The Anne Hathaway version of Catwoman from The Dark Knight Rises.

Bruce Wayne circa The Dark Knight Rises with his transparent armory.

The Dark Knight version of Batman with the gun that shoots plastic explosives.

The 1989 version of Batman played by Michael Keaton. i really like how they gave him a movie-accurate grapple gun as well.

A diorama recreating the Batcomputer also from the 1989 movie.

Everything Else

Captain Edward Kenway from Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag.

Based on the pool cue I’m assuming this is Paul Newman as he looked in the 1961 movie The Hustler.

Lady Alcina Dimitrescu from Resident Evil: Village with her claws out, ready to gut somebody.

Captain Picard as Locutus of Borg from Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s “The Best of Both Worlds.”

And I’ll close this post out with my favorite piece, Megatron in the Transmetal II dragon form he had in the final episodes of Transformers: Beast Wars. I really like how they have him posed standing over Transmetal Tarantulas.
