Here I am with part 2 of my overall coverage of San Diego Comic Con 2022. Considering that San Diego Comic Con 2023 is just a few days away, I am just behind late at this point. There were a few factors that led to me being late, but honestly rather than finding an excuse, I’m just going to man up and take responsibility for it and admit I’m really fucking late on this.

With the whole COVID pandemic shutting down Comic Con for 2 years straight, it was a disappointing time for people like me who look forward to events like this. But like many people I tried to find a positive in that situation and spent the extra time rethinking my site, brushing up on SEO strategies and techniques, taking a couple digital marketing courses, and coming up with new content strategies for how to handle things. Unfortunately for me, the strategy I came up with for SDCC was a bit ambitious if not overwhelming, especially given this is a one-man operation. I mean just look at what I came up with.

In chronological order, here are the posts I came up with for San Diego Comic Con 2022.

And then there’s this post San Diego Comic Con Part 2. In case you aren’t counting this is 16 different posts—and this is just for one event. Compared to other smaller conventions, I might be able to squeeze out 4-6 posts.

In case you haven’t figured it out, my current content strategy is trying to come up with as many posts as I can by trying to find specific themes or subjects to focus on. This is done for 2 reasons. The first one is for SEO, give something that search engines can focus on. The second reason it just makes it easier for me to divide up all the pictures and information I pick up into an easier to absorb package for the audience. With the smaller conventions it’s just harder to come up with ideas on how to divvy things up. I try, but some conventions just don’t attract vendors or activations that justify creating standalone posts for.

Anyway, with San Diego Comic Con 2023 on just right around the corner, I’m going to say it will be interesting. Due to both the WGA and SAG being on strike, several panels and programs have been canceled, as well as some celebrity appearances On top of this, some companies such as Marvel, Netflix, Sony, HBO, and Universal have announced that they will be skipping Comic Con this year. I’ve kept my ear open to social media and it’s no surprise that a lot of people are both pissed, and sad about this. Some of the older, more experienced Comic Con attendees however, are calling this a return to the basics, a return to a time before Comic Con went all mainstream, before it got taken over by television and movies. In fact, I remember one guy even saying that this will be just like how Comic Con was before Twilight.

I’m disappointed with the strikes taking their toll on Comic Con, but honestly there is an upside to this and it is that I’ll have more time to focus on searching for impressive cosplayers, cool activations and displays, and other cool stuff that’s spread out amongst the convention.

I think I’ve ranted enough, here are the rest of my pictures from San Diego Comic Con 2022.

I’ll start this post off with this inflatable Ozzy Osbourne that was on display outside. Why this was here, I have no idea.

This inflatable Cookie Monster however made more sense, this was on display to promote the at the time new Sesame Street Mecha Builders animated series.

Here’s probably one of the only celebrities I saw while I was down there, French Stewart of 3rd Rock from the Sun fame. From what I understand of the strike rules, celebrities are barred from making appearances if they’re promoting a TV show or movie, since it will be considered crossing the picket lines, however celebrities can still attend Comic Con if they’re either on their own or are attached to something that doesn’t involve promoting a TV show or movie, so I still have hopes that I might see a few celebrities down there.

Here’s some really neat Voltron art work by Lee Kohse.

Kohse also did this Macross pic.

The La Flamme Dunny by Junko Mizuno which was on display in the Kid Robot booth. I actually bought one of these, one of the few souvenirs I picked up from the convention.

I thought this goat shitting a diamond looked interesting enough to take a picture of.

Some of the artwork that decorated the Capcom booth. Looking back at this I kind of wish I got more photos of this setup so I could do a standalone post on them. However, I really don’t like this art style. I’d rather have the more mature anime style that Capcom seemed to be known for in the late ’90s/early 2000s.

One of the highlights I got from the Capcom booth was these Street Fighter socks.

Netflix’s booth which I thought looked really cool and futuristic.

A poster for Mr. Sparkle from the Simpsons that caught my eye.

A Stormtrooper helmet which was used as an art piece.

Pokemon Squishmallows which at the time weren’t on the market yet.

A really neat Godzilla mural that was on display at the IDW booth.

A Cyberforce mural that was used to disguise a door at the Image Comics booth.

And with that I am finally done with my San Diego Comic Con 2022 coverage. Better late than never. Don’t forget to check back soon as I play catch up on some other stuff and hopefully get to my San Diego Comic Con 2023 content in a more timely manner.
