When it comes to cosplaying at LA Comic Con I’m unsure how to describe it. Since it is the last convention of the year and if you’ve been hitting up other conventions throughout the year you might see a some repeat cosplays which might sour the convention experience. On the other hand, LA Comic Con is still one of the bigger conventions on the West Coast so it still gets its fair share of cosplays that will make you say “wow.”

In my overall write up on LA Comic Con 2021, I thought the convention seemed a bit so-so and that’s honestly how I would describe the cosplays that I saw. I don’t mean to insult anybody and say LA Comic Con was packed with shit costumes—the quality was there, I just felt there was just some lacking in the quantity. Considering what’s been going on for the last two years I’m honestly not surprised that this is how the cosplays turned out.

COVID-19 lockdown orders left a lot of people trapped at home with very little to do. I figured most cosplayers would have kept busy by working on costumes, putting in a lot more work and fine-tuning all the details. Also with all the streaming services cranking out content to keep people entertained while stuck at home, I really expected to see a lot of new costumes based on whatever shows and movies were trending at the time. As for the quantity, I would chalk to the same reasons why I thought the con itself wasn’t that great which were Emerald City Comic Con happening at the same time splitting some of the attendees and COVID-19 safety protocols discouraging people from attending.

On the plus side, I felt the smaller amount of cosplayers did make it easier to find more standout cosplayers whether it be because they just had such amazing costumes or they were dressed as some obscure character.

Anyway check out the cosplayers of LA Comic Con 2021 below.

Red Hood with the Teen Titans. Starfire here looks to be inspired by the Teen Titans/Teen Titans Go! Cartoons while the rest of the group look like they took inspiration from the Titan series on HBO Max.

Batman with a Carrie Kelley Robin from the Frank Miller Batman series.

The Mandalorian in his beskar armor. The Grogu in his shoulder bag is a good touch.

Cyclops and Magneto from the ’90s X-Men cartoon.

Here’s a first for me, it’s somebody cosplaying as Elvis.

Here are two of my favorite cartoons from my childhood mashed together: Ninja Turtles and Ghostbusters.

That shower costume thing from Karate Kid. This is only the 2nd time I’ve seen somebody wear this at a con. I’m surprised more people haven’t tried to pull it off especially with Cobra Kai putting Karate Kid back in the spotlight.

Here’s GracieTheCosplayLass, one of the professional cosplayers who was at the ‘con dressed up as Knull the symbiote god complete with the All-Black the necrosword.

Two version of Loki (three if you count the stuffed alligator Loki) from the Disney+ Loki series.

A gentlemen wearing a suit made out of Pac-Man pattern print. He said bought and a quick google search revealed that it’s sold on a site called opposuits.com. I’m a bit tempted to buy 1 for myself.

King Dice from Cuphead.

Two variations of Spider-Man. On the left you have Spider-Man as the Sorcerer Supreme, and on the right is what I believe is a Blue Tech Suit Spider-Man. I could have sworn I’ve seen the blue Spider-Man before but I can’t remember where. So far all I’ve been able to find is that it was an action figure from the Spider-Man: Homecoming toyline.

Red Hood and Scarecrow from the Arkham universe.

Since LA Comic Con was held in December for 2021 I wasn’t surprised when I saw this but it’s a Christmas-spin on the Pokemon Dugtrio.

Catwoman and Batman from Batman Returns. Batman Returns I feel has one of the most distinctive suits of any of the Batman movies. While the 1989 and Joel Schumacher movies have the Batsuit sculpted with fake muscles the Batman Returns suit looks like actual body armor with a really unique abdominal piece.

Walter Sobchak and Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski from The Big Lebowski.

Here’s Jordan Blaza Olsen aka @thegirlwithagreatsmile as a Strike Freedom Gundam, which specific Gundam I’m not sure. I remember the first time I met her was at LA Comic Con 2019 when she was walking around the Convention Center as an RX-78-2 Gundam, for LA Comic Con 2021, she had her own table setup among the professional cosplayer area. It’s kind of cool being able to meet 1 of the special guests and say that you first met them way back when they were just another convention attendee.

Joanie Brosas is at like 99% of the conventions I go to. Here she is as DC Bombshell Harley Quinn which is a variation of Harley Quinn that they came up so they could put out another Harley Quinn statue/action figure.

Kyle Broflovski from South Park.

Princess Boo, AKA Booette, AKA Boosette, a Rule 64 bastardization of King Boo from Super Mario.

Lara Croft as she looked in the 2013 reboot game complete with the recurve bow and ice axe. Her ice axe looks real, if it is real I’m curious how she was able to get it passed the costume weapons check.

A couple different Storm Troopers. I’m a bit curious if these guys are all members of the 501st Legion. The paint on the 3 on the left doesn’t quite look right so I’m a bit doubtful they are members of the 501st just because the 501st is known for costumes that are such high-quality that they’ve been used as extras in movies and TV shows.

A Dr. Octopus from Spider-Man’s rogue gallery.

This garbage can looks a bit out of place. I mean it’s a residential outdoor trash can sitting right by the cafe line.

Then suddenly you see a guy dressed as Cookie Monster pop out of it and you realize it’s a guy in costume. I’ve said this many times before, you really have to respect people who are dedicated to costumes like this because they have to be willing to carry all this around with them.

Batman from I believe the Arkham Knight game.

A female assassin from Assassin’s Creed.

Here is my new all-time favorite cosplay, it’s Raiden as he looked in Metal Gear: Revengeance.

A wider shot to see how legit this guy’s costume is.

Megaman, another character that I’m surprise i don’t see isn’t represented more at conventions.

Peter Pan and Tinkerbell.

I saw these guys working outside trying to get this guy dressed up in a Sentinel costume. I think they were trying to make sure he could move comfortably in the costume. I’m guessing they weren’t able to get it right because they ended up ditching the costume and using something else. I’ll cover what their back up costume is later.

A father and daughter dressed as Mando and Grogu.

Later when I was on the convention center floor I bumped into Megaman again who was Protoman.

Skeletor from He-Man.

Here’s Jackal Guard Jaffa from Stargate. I just realized I think this was the first time I saw somebody dressed up as somebody from Stargate, although considering how it’s a military science fiction show that takes place in the present day there’s really not that many cosplays to pull out of Stargate.

A Joker. I remember I read something about how one of the main inspirations for the Joker was Conrad Veidt’s character, Gwynplaine from The Man Who Laughs, a silent movie from 1928, and the picture I saw of Veidt looks just like this guy.

More characters from Spider-Man’s rogues gallery.

Brad Pitt’s take on Achilles from the 2004 movie Troy.

Scarlet and Storm Shadow from the old G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero cartoon.

Here’s a guy who was cosplaying as a Keanu Reeves meme.

Here’s a family dressed as Rick and Morty, more specifically Rick, Summer, Evil Morty, and Mr. Meeseeks.

Static Shock. I know there’s a version of Static in the Young Justice cartoon but I’m a bit surprised DC hasn’t tried to reboot that character by giving him his own cartoon again.

Beeker with a stuffed Bunsen.

So those guys who tried putting together a Sentinel costume, they gave up and as a backup they had their guy dress as Red Hulk.

The Nemesis from Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.

Finishing up this post with a group of cosplaying as some of the ninjas from Mortal Kombat.

So that’s it for the cosplayers of LA Comic Con 2021. Thanks for checking out and don’t forget to come back for more!
