Whether it’s a convention on the East Coast or on the West Coast or somewhere in between there’s 1 company that I’ve grown used to seeing at conventions and that is Bluefin Brands.

If it wasn’t for Bluefin I wouldn’t have started this site. Bluefin Brands is the distributor of a lot of cool collectibles here in North America, collectibles from companies like Tamashii Nations, Shokugan, Storm Collectibles, and Flame Toys just to name a few. My toy collecting as an adult started with Bluefin’s stuff before expanding to Legos and Transformers. From there I had to justify buying all that stuff to myself which is one of the reasons I started this site.

I remember it all started a few years ago, I was surfing the web when I came across pictures of figures from the at the time upcoming Movie/Manga Realization line from Bandai Tamashii Nations.

At the time I thought they were really cool. I mean why wouldn’t I? The entire realization line revolves around taking Marvel and Star Wars characters and reimagining them as Japanese warriors which is like the coolest way you can reimagine Star Wars and Marvel characters. But even though I thought they were cool the thrifty voice in my head was discouraging me from wanting them. At the time I wasn’t sure where I would buy them, I didn’t trust buying online because I thought they would be too fragile to ship.

After that I put them out of my mind until that year’s LA Comic Con where I found myself wandering into Bluefin’s booth and saw they had the Movie/Manga realization figures I had been wanting and on top of that they weren’t as expensive as I thought they were (the site I first saw them on didn’t have pricing) so I bought a couple. A few weeks later I saw they were coming out with some new figures I thought looked cool so I went to Frank and Sons and found a vendor who was selling them and I bought those too. Then I bought a couple more. Now I have a bunch of them which I have been meaning to photograph and put up here so I could feel better about buying them.

Like I said earlier Bluefin is a constant at a lot of conventions I go to. When I went to C2E2 I remember my Dad talked to one of their reps there and he said the week after C2E2 they would be back on the West Coast for Wondercon before going back to Chicago the week after that for Star Wars Celebration.

Considering how big San Diego Comic Con is I wasn’t surprised that Bluefin was there. I was a little disappointed that most of the stuff they were selling was stuff that I wasn’t into, however I was impressed by their displays which is why I decided to give them their own stand alone post.

I remember at C2E2 Bluefin had this big Godzilla on display outside of their booth to capitalize on the release of Godzilla: King of the Monsters. While it was out at SDCC they did have a slightly different setup for the display.

I like at this angle it looks like a fullblown kaiju-sized monster even though in real life it’s only like 8 feet tall or so.

A couple Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z figures from SHFigurarts. From clockwise starting at the top left there’s Super Saiyan Blue Son Gohan, Super Saiyan Rose Goku Black in his packaging. Super Saiyan Rose Goku Black out of his package, Golden Freiza, Son Goku as a kid and Super Saiyan Son Gohan.

A couple Tamashii Nations Movie Realization Star Wars figures. Sorry for the bad lighting, having a light pointed directly at Kylo Ren was a very bad idea as it made it really bad for photographs.

Here are the Tamashii Nations Movie Realization Marvel figures. Like the last case this 1 was also very poorly lit.

I really love this hanger setup they had for this RX-93 v Gundam AKA the Nu Gundam from Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack. This is just proof that you don’t need a battle scene to look cool. I’d be tempted to buy if I had the room for it-and the money the buy it.

A wider shot of the RX-93 Gundam so you can see the whole hanger setup. The articulated arm is a good touch and really gives off a futuristic feel. I do wish they had a few extra articulated arms kind of like in Iron Man. Or at least a few more weapons and accessories.

Godzilla, King Ghidorah, and Mothra from S.H. MonsterArts. I started giggling a bit when I realized the clouds are cottonballs.

Here is my next big purchase the Bandai Soul of Chogokin GX-88 Armored Fleet Dairugger XV AKA Vehicle Voltron.

Some Ultraman figures from SHFiguarts. It’s really bugging me how much Ultraman looks Gridman from Denkou Choujin Gridman/Gridman Hyper Agent or as it’s known here in the US Servo from Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad. Both Gridman and Ultraman were created by the same producers but I’m curious if this was done on purpose or if they just got lazy.

Ant-Man, Wasp, and some Iron Man armors from SHFiguarts.

A couple Naruto figures from Figuarts Zero. Like the Tamashii Nations cases this 1 was also really badly lit.

Closing this out with some more SHFiguarts Dragonball Z figures. I really wish I kept up with Dragonball Z because I’m really curious what’s going on with the blue and red-haired Super Saiyans.

Thanks for checking this out. I still have so much San Diego Comic Con stuff to get through as well as D23 and LA Comic Con stuff so check back soon for that.
