My First Blog Post

By Joshua Ching

So this my first blog post on my new site…cool.

For those of you who haven’t figured it out by now because for whatever reason you’re oblivious to the byline or the name on the site I’m Josh AKA Samurai Josh and this is my new website.

I’ve been toying with the idea of building my own website for quite a while. Originally I tried working with Blogger (http://samuraijosh.blogspot.com), but I abandoned that pretty quickly due to all the limitations it had. Later, on the recommendation of some coworkers and because I use it as part of my day job I then tried building another site using a WordPress based platform (https://itssamuraijosh.wordpress.com).

WordPress… I tried to make that work but that was a clusterfuck before I even started. For starters I couldn’t use the name samuraijosh because somebody already grabbed it up, also I was cheaping myself out on that by using a free site. Between that and honestly a lack of motivation to work on it because of how crappy free WordPress is, it went nowhere. Hell, it wasn’t until I won tickets to San Diego Comic Con and tried to make a cool blog story about my trip that I realized how crappy free WordPress is. But anyway here I am, more than a year later, with a real website with a real domain and a bunch of other real stuff.

Now originally when I first thought about creating my own blog I thought about doing a whole nerd/pop culture news site but honestly that shit is too hard to do. It’s too much work to stay on top of that stuff, and you have to make sure to be posting about that stuff in a timely manner otherwise it isn’t news anymore. Also another thing I found when writing news-type stories is that it’s hard to be able to write that stuff in my own voice. With that being said, this isn’t going to be a nerd/pop culture news site. However I am still very passionate about that stuff so this site will have a sort of nerd/pop culture theme to it.

Honestly I have near encyclopedic knowledge on a lot of useless topics: television shows and movies, video games, toys, comic books and a lot of other crap you can learn while surfing Wikipedia, Cracked and a bunch of other random knowledge sites. Given the categories I’ve created expect to read things on television shows, movies, games, and random stuff I find on the internet, art and anything I come across in real life that I’m interested in as well. For the hell of it I might mix in some car stuff from work but I’m not 100% sure I’m willing to do that—yet.

So for those of you who have found my site and found this entry and have read it in its entirety thank you for your time and I hope you’ll be willing to come back later.

-Josh
