Most of the conventions I’ve been to in the past, Sideshow Collectibles was there with a pretty noteworthy setup but in 2019 they haven’t really been around. I don’t know if it’s just because they’ve been cutting back with exhibiting at conventions or maybe I’ve just been oblivious to their presence but I haven’t seen them around much. At San Diego Comic Con Sideshow made up for their absence at the last couple conventions with one of the biggest presences on the exhibition floor.

For those aren’t familiar with Sideshow Collectibles they are a studio responsible for crafting incredibly detailed statues and figures based on comicbooks, videogames, movies, and other pop culture sources as well as pieces based on original ideas. They are in their own words:

“A modern day renaissance studio, specializing in licensed and original creations.”

I remember I saw a Facebook Live from either 2017 or 2018 that Sideshow did of their booth on Comic Con preview night, and if their booth back then was anything like the booth they did for 2019 then that Facebook Live did not do them justice because it did not accurately show how big of a presence they had SDCC.

At SDCC their booth was a madhouse all weekend. They had hundreds if not thousands of pieces on display as well as comedian, Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias on site to autograph a special piece that they were selling that was based on him.

With what Sideshow had going on at Comic Con it was just too much for me. I tried to get pictures of as many of their pieces as I could but there were just too many. I’m hoping that I’ve at least done Sideshow Collectibles some justice with how I’ve presented and since they are a Southern California-based company I’m hoping that I’ve done something right and that I’ve hopefully popped up on their radar and that they’ll reach out to me offering a partnership, or some other opportunities. It would be really nice if at future conventions and events that they would bring me in with their staff so I could get early access to photograph their booths. Or maybe and this is what I’m really hoping for, since they are a Southern California-based company it would be really cool if I could tour their facilities and get a behind the scenes look at how they do things.

*fingers crossed*

Those are pretty reasonable goals aren’t they? Until then please enjoy the pics I brought back from Sideshow Collectibles’ 2019 San Diego Comic Con booth.

Here’s Superman holding Brainiac’s decapitated head.

Jason Mamoa Aquaman. This thing is really good, it really looks just like Mamoa.

Starfire posing like an old-school pinup with what I’m guessing is Beast Boy in monkey form.

Heath Ledger’s Joker from Dark Knight recreating that scene where he’s sitting in Gotham PD’s jail.

Mr. Freeze. I really don’t like this guy’s freeze gun because it looks cartoony. I wish they streamlined it to look more like an assault rifle or at least figure out how to make it look more menacing.

Spiderman. I like how the base is made out of Doctor Octopus’s tentacles.

Miles Morales Spiderman.

Spiderman and Mary Jane done in a style similar to J. Scott Campbell. I’m wondering now if they were inspired by Campbell or if they actually had him design it.

Various Marvel superheroes from Avengers: Endgame.

Batgirl.

Here’s a really cool statue of the Main Man, Lobo.

Wonder Woman. This one looks like it’s inspired by how WW currently looks in the comicbooks rather than the Patty Jenkins Wonder Woman movie starring Gal Gadot.

John Stewart Green Lantern.

Wolverine in civilian clothing but still looking badass.

Iron Man in Mark VII armor which puts this around Avengers/Iron Man 3. the base looks really cool being shaped like an explosion or the back blasts from the boot jets.

Jean Grey wearing the bodysuit costume that is probably best remembered from the ’90s X-Men cartoon.

I think Rob Liefeld would be really proud of this version of Cable since it looks just like his art style. You have the unnatural body proportions, big ass weapons, really big and really unnecessary armor. All it needs are a couple more pouches strapped to the thighs.

She-Hulk. Like Hulk in his purple pants I think whenever people picture She-Hulk they always picture her in the white and purple leotard.

Domino wearing the black commando outfit from when she rejoined the Six Pack and from I believe the Cable & Deadpool series.

Wolverine’s nemesis, Sabertooth.

Speaking of people related to Wolverine here’s his clone/quasi-daughter X-23. I’m assuming her costume is how she currently looks. I haven’t really been able to keep up on my X-Men comics lately.

I thought this was really cool, a recreation of the scene from Jurassic Park when Dr. Grant sees the sick triceratops.

The Witch-King of Angmar from Lord of the Rings on his fellbeast.

Frodo, Gandalf, and a few Nazguls.

These pieces are from Court of the Dead, an original property from Sideshow Collectibles.

Not all of the pieces Sideshow brought out were statues. This lifesized guy is Death Master of the Underworld, one of the original characters from Court of the Dead.

A xenomorph from the Aliens series. The floor damaged by the aliens’ acidic blood was a good touch.

Bumblebee and Blitzwing from the Bumblebee movie.

Here are different versions of Bumblebee and Blitzwing along with Optimus Prime. I wasn’t a big fan of how they designed Optimus for the Bumblebee movie. I know they were going for a retro look to make him look more like he did in the ’80s cartoon but I didn’t think it translated well to the big-screen, it just made him look too bulky in my opinion.

R2D2 from Return of the Jedi when he gets shot and all his little gadgets pop out of his compartments.

Rosa Salazar’s Alita from the Robert Rodriguez Alita: Battle Angel movie.

Another Heath Ledger Joker. This time he’s wearing a purple trench coat and recreating the scene where he threatens all the gangsters with all his grenades.

Gambit from X-Men. This costume is the one he wore in his first appearance back in Uncanny X-Men #266 and is also the one he is most associated with I think due to being the one he wore in the ’90s X-Men cartoon.

Rogue in the iconic green and yellow bodysuit with leather jacket. From X-Men # 1 volume 2 and the ’90s cartoon. I heard somewhere this style of having women in comics wear form fitting bodysuits underneath a leather jacket was popularized by Jim Lee.

A really creepy-looking bust of Wolverine in the yellow and brown suit from the ’80s.

This bust of Iron Man Mark III armor is really cool. I wonder if the light for the ARC reactor needs batteries or if it plugs in.

This Venom is also really cool. Although with my luck I’ll probably break the tongue off by accident.

Stan Lee as he appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vo. 2 sitting on an asteroid hanging out with some Watchers.

Frank Castle AKA the Punisher in the stolen War Machine armor from a recent comicbook storyline.

Iron Man Neon Tech 2.0. While cool looking I don’t think this is from the comicbook. I’m pretty sure Sideshow just created this so they had something else for collectors to buy.

Like Neon Tech Iron Man I thought this Neon Tech War Machine looked pretty cool. Although I would have gone with a darker shade of red to make it look more menacing.

Mark VII Iron Man from the first Avengers movie.

Hulkbuster Mark II armor from Avengers: Infinity War. I really don’t like the silver and gold accents on the chest because I feel it doesn’t make the Hulkbuster armor look that menacing.

Iron Man Mark L armor from Infinity War with the sword and repulsor cannon arms.

The Iron Spider armor from Infinity War/Endgame. I feel they should have worked on the color scheme a little more because it looks like Spider-Man is just wearing a t-shirt and pants with spiderlegs coming out of his back.

Even wonder what would happen if the Venom Symbiot merged with Deadpool? Well wonder no more.

War Machine Mark IV armor from Infinity War. While cool looking I feel they should have made the missile pods bigger. Although I’m guessing they made them small so they could realistically fold them into the armor’s backpack.

Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2

Hope Pym’s Wasp from Ant-Man and the Wasp.

War Machine with his armor in time travel mode.

Tony Stark in the time travel Avengers suit.

Pepper Potts in the Rescue armor from Endgame

And here’s Iron Man from Endgame. The two of them recreating the back to back repulsor scene from the giant battle.

Sideshow had this big poster up to promote all the Marvel pieces they had on display. If you look closely you can see that all the people on the poster are statues and not the real people.

Black Widow from Endgame. I wonder why in Infinity War they changed Black Widow up by making her hair blonde and giving her a green costume then changing her back to a black costume and red hair for Endgame.

Captain America from that part in Endgame where he goes back in time to get Loki’s staff.

Clint Barton’s as Hawkeye from Endgame…

… And here’s Clint in his Ronin outfit which is almost the same thing.

Endgame version of War Machine.

The Endgame version of Nebula. Not sure if this is the good Nebula or bad Nebula.

Captain Marvel from the Captain Marvel movie. I’m pretty sure this is the Captain Marvel movie version since she doesn’t have the shorter haircut.

The Iron Patriot armor that Rhodey switched into for the big battle. I just rewatched that scene and that got me scratching my head a little. I guess it makes sense that Rhodey had to ditch the War Machine armor because it was damaged and buried all that rubble but where was the Iron Patriot armor?

Smart Hulk complete with the Stark-made Infinity gauntlet

Captain America with his shield and Mjolnir from the fight with Thanos.

Endgame version of Thanos with the double-bladed sword thing and Infinity Gauntlet.

A Spider-Man which according to the sign is supposed to be from Spider-Man: Homecoming. Is it just me or does this thing look like it has boobs? Using a piece of the Vulture’s flight suit for the base was a good touch.

Mark 2 Iron Man armor from the very first Iron Man movie and reappears again in the second movie where Rhodey steals it and gives it to Justin Hammer to upgrade.

I want to say this is the Mark 3 Iron Man armor but I’m not 100% sure if the chest piece is correct. I know that armor has the right round arc reactor but the shape of the chest piece is just really bugging me.

Closing this post out with the Infinity Gauntlets from Endgame. Sorry for the glare but the way Sideshow had ecerything setup it just wasn’t that camera friendly.

Here’s Thanos’ Infinity Gauntlet.

The Tony Stark-made Infinity Gauntlet that was made for the Hulk.

And Stark’s improvised Infinity Gauntlet that was made when he steals the stones from Thanos and integrates it into his nano-tech Iron man suit.

Thanks for checking this out. I still have a lot more San Diego Comic Con stuff to go through so don’t forget to check back soon.
