This is the first time I went to an art exhibition that was a sequel to another exhibition. Although if I remember correctly, the Flora & Fauna exhibition I went to a few years ago was a sequel exhibition but I never attended the first exhibition and in fact I wasn’t even there for that-I was there because of the Corgi art exhibition, I only checked out the Flora & Fauna exhibition because it was there and I figured it would be easy content for the site.

When Gallery Nucleus had their first Dream Destinations exhibitions I thought it was a really original idea for an exhibition. Artwork done in the style of vintage travel posters and postcards and inspired by the settings and locations of Disney animated movies and television shows. Not only was it a really great idea but it was also something that would be perfect for my website.

When I heard Gallery Nucleus would be holding a follow up to Dream Destinations I was excited. Originally, I was going to wait until the night of opening reception, but when I was there getting pictures of the What’s Up Danger? The Into The Spider-Verse Tribute Show I looked at a poster they had up promoting the exhibition and saw that while the opening reception for Dream Destinations 2 was going to be held on July 13, (I was there on June 30th) all the artwork was already up on display in Gallery Nucleus’s backroom. It was tempting to come back for the opening reception because of all the stuff they would have going on at the same time but I thought it would be better just to take pictures of all the pieces when the gallery was fairly empty so I could take my time without having to worry about somebody ruining my shot or me ruining the experience for other people.

I was hoping that Gallery Nucleus would put the artwork for Dream Destinations 2 in the main gallery rather than their backroom just because I really hate the lighting in their backroom. While I was able to take my time and figure out how to compensate for the lighting in the backroom I was really annoyed with the temperature of the lighting in the backroom (seriously Nucleus you should really consider switching to bulbs with a cooler light). I really should have tried messing with my white balance setting to even it out but I didn’t want to give myself a headache trying to figure it out so I took my chances on shooting on automatic white balance. When I saw the end result they bugged me too much so I tried fixing them in Photoshop, unfortunately I could only do so much so bear with me if some of the pics are looking a little too warm or too cool.

Like the first Dream Destination exhibition, Dream Destination 2 was a collaborative effort between Disney Fine Art and Cyclops Print Works. Looking at the artist list Dream Destinations 2 had fewer participating artists than Dream Destinations 1. Looking at the list for both exhibitions I did see a lot of returning names, a few of them I have seen on other exhibitions put on by Nucleus. This makes me wonder how they get involved. Does Gallery Nucleus call them up with the theme and ask them to contribute something or do they just have their ear to the ground and whenever Gallery Nucleus announces the theme for an upcoming exhibition and they just start cranking stuff out accordingly.

At this point I babbled enough, so here’s the artwork. Once again for the sake of organization I decided to group the pieces by the work that inspired them.

Enjoy!
