I would have gotten this up sooner but honestly. I started staring at my site and started thinking, “Yeah, I need content up for this thing but I also need to work on the design aspect of this site.” I literally just finished the header for my site just a few hours ago, and after installing it, I realized that I also need to figure out what to do for the title text and the footer. On top of this I also need to start working on all the miscellaneous support pages for this site as well as well as making sure I have all the proper SEO plugins and options installed and configured properly so people can actually find my site.
Honestly, I really jumped the gun launching my site considering I had not even 1% ready when I did, but honestly if I didn’t do it then I never would have done it at all. Hopefully I can have all the design and background minutiae done by the end of the year so I can focus fully on just cranking out content.
In past posts I’ve rambled with the idea of splitting up my some of my posts up for a variety of reasons. First one is organization. If I split up my posts I can be more coherent and give my posts themes. Second reason is SEO purposes. More posts on a subject is more content for Google and other search engines to crawl. The third is readability both on the front end and the backend. I cram so much into one posts I’m sure to lose people. Also all these photos are really taking a toll on my 7 year old Macbook. The fourth and perhaps the most important reason I’ve decided to split this up is just turn around time. If I start breaking up my content it’s less stuff I have to go through at a time which makes it easier to put together a post and makes it easier to have something for anybody who reads this.
Originally I was going to start multi-posting with Long Beach Comic Con but after going through it and trying to come up with ways to split it up I honestly couldn’t figure it out. I probably left it a little long but like I said I just couldn’t figure out how to stylistically do it. Given how many photos I took and what I took while I was at New York not only did I have a way to stylistically figure out how to partition everything out I also had a reason why I need to separate it. I took like 450 photos in New York and even after going through for my last post I still have like 270 photos of cosplayers to go through. Now depending on how many of these photos I can use expect to see 2-3 more posts from New York.
This ramble seemed shorter than my past ones so on to the pictures.
Here’s a Poison Ivy. Poison Ivy was a pretty common cosplay at NYCC. She was the very first cosplayer I snapped a photo of when I got to the convention. And at first I didn’t really like how this came out because of the shadows but after looking at it again I think the light shining through the window on her makes it okay.
Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy. At least I think she’s Gwen Stacy. The one opera glove and the fish net veil are throwing me off.
Here’s a pretty cool costume of Billy the Puppet from the Saw Series. According to a Javits Center staff member this kid basically spent the day before at the con just cruising around on his tricycle while people were into his outfit.
A Silent Bob. Just like any good Silent Bob cosplayer this guy would not break character by saying anything.
Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty. This girl really had it down. I mean look at the Disney art and look at her and you’d think she was the model for her.
I want to say this girl is supposed to be Pennywise from the 2017 version of It. Her costume could use a little work but the makeup is pretty spot on.
Evil Morty from Rick and Morty.
Velma and Shaggy from Scooby Doo. The box of Scooby Snacks and the magnifying glass are a good touch.
This is a really good Groot. The mask really captured Groot’s face. I’m curious if he made this or just bought it.
Karl Ruprecht Kroenen the evil Nazi ninja from the 2004 Hellboy film with Ron Perlman. The Katars/Armblades really make the costume..
Master Roshi AKA the Turtle Hermit from Dragonball Z.
Team Avatar from Avatar: The Last Airbender along with that Cabbage Guy who kept getting his cabbage cart destroyed.
Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus from Rogue One. Baze did a good job with the accessories.
Here’s the Main Man himself, Lobo wearing a Canadian tuxedo.
This guy’s Spawn is pretty good. I like how he got the cape down pretty well.
I know these are store bought but Chip and Dale are really good together.
Unity and Rick from the Auto Erotic Assimilation episode of Rick and Morty. Rick and Morty-themed costumes were very popular at this con.
Here’s another freaky costume. It’s Frank the Rabbit from Donnie Darko.
Here’s Xorn complete with the X-Men costume from the E for Extinction storyline from the X-Men comics.
Barf from Space Balls.
Kratos from God of War. Drawing lines to highlight the muscles was a good touch.
A generic Jedi. Seeing the blue light saber I’m wondering if you can buy a purple one like the one Mace Windu had.
It’s nice to see a father/daughter cosplay combo and honestly what better costume can a father and daughter do than Wolverine and X-23 from Logan?
Slave Princess Leias are always fun. I’m surprised she was one of the only ones I saw at NYCC.
Fry and Leela from Futurama. I feel a little bad for Leela only have the one eye open although I’m sure she probably brushed the bang out of her other eye when people weren’t taking pictures of her.
Cloud and Barrett from Final Fantasy VII in PS1 graphics. Good original idea although I wish they went all in and had costumes to go with their heads.
Here is either Tenzin or adult Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender.
I’m surprised I didn’t see that many inflatable T-Rexs. Although I did see this inflatable Reptar from Rugrats. I feel glad I was able to see the actual costume in person before seeing an announcement for it on somebody else’s blog.
A Predator. Judging by the design of the facemask this guy modeled his costume on the predators from the Alien vs. Predator movies or the newer Predators movie. The plasmacaster and the necklace of trophies are good small details.
Prince Robot from Saga. I’m really wondering how this guy can see since in this outfit. It looks like there’s a slit beneath the screen and the screen casing but if that’s the case this guy can’t have that much visibility in there.
Here’s the rest of Prince Robot’s friends. From left to right it’s The Will, Prince Robot, Lying Cat, The Stalk, Hazel, and Ghus.
Here’s another Lobo. This one wearing actual biker leathers.
Here’s a Swamp Thing. At first I was kicking myself for getting lens flare in there but honestly after taking a second look I think it looks good with Swamp Thing like he’s a flower blooming in the sun or something.
Here’s two versions of Jyn Erso from Rogue One. First one in the costume we first saw her in when she was recruited into the rebellion and another in the Imperial technician costume she wore when they infiltrated the Citadel Tower on Scariff.
I saw a lot of Wonder Women but I think this is the only 1 I saw who had a Steve Trevor with them.
I’m a sucker for Corgis which is why I got this pic of Ed and Ein from Cowboy Bebop. Her costume is pretty spot on. I mean the goggles, the belly shirt, bicycle shorts, even the green bag for Ein. It’s all very accurate.
Skull Kid circa I believe Majora’s Mask.
This is a damn good Boba Fett.
I’m not sure who this chick is. I’m like 90% sure she’s Princess Yue of the Northern Water Tribe or a Water Bender from Avatar: The Last Airbender. But that last 10% of me is thinking she’s a Daenerys Targaryen.
2017 Georgie with 1990 Pennywise.
Between the Ultimate Marvel imprint and the Marvel films I feel we’re so used to Nick Fury looking like and being portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson. I wonder how many people remember that originally Nick Fury was a super spy portrayed by an old white dude with a cigar.
A Spider family composed of Miles Morales Spider-Man, Gwen Stacy Spider-Woman and I guess Spider-Boy?
With all the Pennywise the Clowns it’s nice to see somebody do something different by being Twisty the Clown from American Horror Story: Freakshow.
Hodor holding the door.
As you can see by the picture this woman was attracting a really huge crowd with her really elaborate outfit. I really wish I was able to get more pictures of her or talk to her learn more about her costume but unfortunately due to the crowds she was attracting it just wasn’t possible. Luckily thanks to social media I was able to learn that her name is Liz Mooney and her costume was made by Ryan Jude Novelline with 30,000 Swarovski crystals.
When I was a kid I remember there was a Wolverine action figure with Wolverine in his underwear and wearing a crazy helmet with all these wires sticking out of it and the description on the packaging said this was supposed to be Wolverine when he escaped from the Weapon X lab. That is what this guy is and he has it down really well athough he should probably be in a Speedo instead of those shorts if he wanted to be more accurate.
Gaston and Belle from Beauty and the Beast. They have the attitude of the characters down really well showing off Gaston’s arrogance and Belle’s disapproval of him.
Really good Travis Bickle from Taxi Driver from this dude.
Two Advanced Idea Mechanics operatives in their “Beekeeper” uniforms. It’s been a while since I picked up a Marvel comic book so I’m wondering if Marvel still uses these uniforms.
Like that dude who was dressed as Henry Jones Sr. here on the West Coast this guy was pretty original dressing up as John Hammond from Jurassic Park.
Right away I recognized these guys as the emotional spectrum from the Green Lantern comics. However and I feel bad for not catching this right away butI didn’t realize that these guys were doing a Lantern/Dragonball Z mashup.
A Gal Godot Wonder Woman complete with a shield.
Being in New York it was good to see a Netflix Jessica Drew and Luke Cage.
Lilith Aensland from Darkstalkers.
Another Pennywise from the 2017 version of It. I like how this guy upped the ante a little using by giving his Pennywise pointed teeth.
Cammy White from Street Fighter.
Professfor Pyg from the Batman.
A really good Ezekiel from the Walking Dead. I like how he got the dirt biker chest plate/body armor and knee pads. They’re subtle but very crucial details that I’m sure most people would over look.
Loki with a Thor from Thor: Ragnarok. The Loki costume is pretty good but the blade on her staff is a bit too big to be accurate.
Fiona from Tales of the Borderlands. The makeup was a good to help emphasize the features on Fiona’s face.
This is probably a good place to stop. Honestly I probably should have stopped about 20 pictures ago but I was just in the zone. Hopefully I can keep up the momentum and have the rest of the pics up within the next day or two.
Wish me luck.
