I’m not really sure what else I could say about Alex Ross that I didn’t say when I went over his booth at Comic Con 2019. Ross’s style is said employ a combination of gouache and wash, and is said to exhibit “a Norman Rockwell-meets George Perez vibe.” I’ll admit, when I first got into comic books I was a little turned off by his style because it was so different than what I was used to reading. As you can tell by the header image, Alex Ross does not skimp on the details and realism and I’m pretty sure most people who aren’t familiar with his work would assume they’re just heavily edited photographs rather than paintings.

If you’ve seen my past art posts you’ll know I try to add identifiers to my images when possible rather than just throwing them up like some lazy amateur. Unfortunately, Ross’s booth/gallery didn’t have labels with the pieces. Luckily for me, prints of most of the pieces that were on display were on sale or at least still listed on Ross’s website. The few pieces that weren’t listed on his site I was still able to find with a few quick Google searches.

Anyway enjoy the artwork of Alex Ross.

Pop Culture

Flash Gordon

David Bowie

Yellow Submarine Giclee

Space Ghost

Marvel

Here’s a wall displaying a variety of Marvel-based artwork. While it was tempting to get photos of each piece individually, I thought it was just too much to do and given how they were arranged it just seemed so much easier to do it this way.

Asgard Universe Thor

Moon Knight

Marvelocity Fantastic Four

Black Widow. I’m not going to lie. At first glance I thought this was a DC piece because I thought it was the Huntress and so I was confused by all the Marvel titles in the background. It wasn’t until I remembered how Black Widow looked in the ’60s that I realized it was her.

X-Force

Marvel Heroes

X-Men Tribute

DC

Some various superheroes. I wonder if it was planned on purpose or if there was a mistake on whoever designed the booth, or maybe it’s just that they had no other piece, but I’m really curious why they would put a Thor portrait here when the other pieces are all based on DC heroes.

Batman Defender of Gotham

Enigma

Joker’s Reckoning

Batman the Knight

DC Comics Unleashed

Teen Titans Tribute

That’s really it from Alex Ross’s booth. Thanks for reading and don’t forget to stop by for more.
