With it being as big and high profile as it is, I always thought that when it comes to conventions, San Diego Comic Con really brings out the heavy hitters in terms of cosplayers. This is an event that brings out both high-quality and uniqueness.
Don’t believe me? Just check out the pictures and decide for yourself if what I found was high-quality and unique.
Even though dogs aren’t officially allowed at most of the conventions I go to, I always enjoy it when people bring their dogs with them, even if they have to spend the day outside.
While walking around outside the convention on Preview Night I caught these 2 puppers wearing Marvel-themed outfits. One dressed a Loki, and another wearing Dr. Strange’s Cloak of Levitation and Eye of Agamotto.
Here’s Dudevaderhero wearing his C3PO/Darth Vader-inspired golden suit.
A Gunslinger Spawn who first appeared in Spawn #174 back in 2008 and is currently starring in his own series. I’m a little disappointed that he’s missing some of the details and accessories but I praise the guy for choosing a lesser-known character to cosplay as.
A Judge from the South African-produced Dredd movie starring Karl Urban from a few years ago.
Right after I saw that Judge, I noticed he was with a Judge Anderson who was played by Olivia Thirlby. The Judge Anderson is pretty accurate, not only did she forgo the helmet like in the movie but she also has the frizzy hair. In the movie Anderson explained that she preferred not to wear a helmet due to it interfering with her psychic abilities.
A Mario and Luigi I appropriately found standing in front of the giant Lego Bowser. I like how they put the fake mustaches on their facemasks.
A rifleman from Titanfall. According to the guy the helmet came from a special edition Titanfall game and isn’t actually wearable which is why he has it hanging on his belt.
A twist on Cobra Commander and Cobra Troopers from GI Joe.
This gentlemen here dressed up as one of the technicians from Space Balls is actually a former coworker of mine named Nhan.
And here’s Nhan’s wife dressed as Mai Shiranui from SNK’s King of Fighters/Fatal Fury.
I thought I knew who this girl is supposed to be dressed as but honestly I can’t think of it at the moment. I remember seeing a bunch of cosplay influencers wearing the same thing on Instagram but I can’t seem to find their posts. They must have been done as stories.
Here’s somebody obviously inspired by at the time upcoming She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, a welcome change to past She-Hulks I’ve seen wearing purple leotard.
Ron Burgundy from Anchor Man.
Professor Henry Jones Senior from Indian Jones: And the Last Crusade. I’m like 99% sure this is a different Professor Jones than the one I’ve been seeing around at the ‘cons in and around the LA-area.
A patriotic-twist on Spider-Man.
A Thor. Judging by the chainmail sleeves, this look is inspired by how Thor looked in Thor: The Mighty Avengers.
Rosalina from Mario Tennis and I want to say a Sorceress from Dragon’s Crown.
Korra from the Avatar: The Last Airbender spinoff The Legend of Korra.
Thor villain Surtur. Notice the giant bulge in his silver briefs. I just wanted to point it out so it’s burned into your mind.
While we’re on Thor villains here’s a Thor: Ragnarok version of Hela recreating the scene where she destroys Mjolnir.
A Faye from Cowboy Bebop with a tri-colored corgi.
Doc Brown circa Back to the Future Part II.
A Disney version of Captain Hook. At first I thought it was a mistake on his part that his hat is purple instead of red to match his coat. It wasn’t until I looked it up that I saw that the Disney version of Captain hook also has a purple hat and red coat. Apparently the purple hat is to match his purple pants.
Admiral Thrawn and Ahsoka Tano from Star Wars.
Later I caught up to Professor Jones who was with 7 Indiana Joneses and a Short Round.
Here’s Manuel Carrillo (@chubbz21), an amateur bodybuilder I met doing Conan the Barbarian.
While I had him I decided to have him do this pose which I could have sworn was used in a promotional poster for one of Schwarzenegger’s Conan movies.
An Ashe from Overwatch.
Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher.
Ed from Good Burger along with Bob Belcher from Bob’s Burgers.
Here’s a girl doing Mega Man complete with an E tank.
And along with Megaman we have a Dr. Light.
Here’s a unique cosplay. It’s Melanie Daniels, Tippi Hedren’s character from the Birds.
Harley Quinn and a Poison Ivy. While the Harley Quinn is inspired by the Margot Robbie standalone Harley Quinn movie I’m not quite sure what the inspiration behind Poison Ivy is from.
Once again that guy who cosplays as Silent Bob was there standing by that same pillar. I like how he got the custom mask with either his face or Silent Bob’s face printed on it.
Anybody remember the Dr. Mario or Dr. Luigi puzzle games? These guys obviously do.
Mad Moxxi from Borderlands.
An Alfred Molina Dr. Octopus from the Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 and the recent Spider-Man: No Way Home.
While I was outside the convention center I saw more doggy cosplayers. Here we have what I think are Yorkshire terriers as the Scarlet Witch and Vision.
Scarlet Witch and America Chavez as they looked in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Here’s a Comic-Con volunteer/worker doing her job while dressed as an Imperial fleet officer from Star Wars.
While we’re on the subject of Star Wars cosplayers here are a couple Storm Troopers. Apparently the orange pauldron thing is supposed to signify a Stormtrooper unit leader, which I don’t quite understand why they would go with this. I mean, why not at least make it the same color as the rest of the armor?
A Negan from Walking Dead with I want to say Anna from Frozen. It’s a bit of an odd combo that I would have never expected.
Mysterio from Spider-Man: Far From Home. I really like how his fishbowl helmet has the ability to change colors.
Here’s another first, it’s Napoleon Dynamite.
Dale wearing the Tom Selleck Magnum P.I. shirt from Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers.
A court jester-inspired Harley Quinn.
I’m not sure what this girl is from. The sword looks like it’s from She-Ra: Princess of Power but I know she’s not She-Ra and I don’t think she’s another character from there.
At first I thought this woman was a gender-bent version of the Cabbage Man from Avatar: The Last Airbender, but looking at her again I feel she’s supposed to be a villager from a Legend of Zelda game.
Porco Rosso from the Miyazaki movie of the same name.
And I’ll close this post out with a couple Mandalorians.
I still have bunch more pictures from San Diego Comic Con so don’t forget to check back later for more.
