So the cosplayers of Wondercon 2022… I’m not sure what how to start this. I could go on and talk about how awesome they were but honestly how is that any different than any other blog covering cosplaying at a convention?
Ever since I began segmented how I did convention coverage, writing my posts by theme and segmenting larger posts, it’s been quite a challenge coming up with intros for my post, more specifically the cosplayer posts. I just find it hard to come up with different ways to talk about a topic I cover so many times.
When I went into Wondercon 2022, I was continuing my quest to find unique and well-done cosplays and I have to say Wondercon 2022 did not disappoint. Probably 1 of the few good things to come out of the quarantine period in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, so many people were forced to find ways to find ways to keep themselves occupied while trapped in their homes. A lot of people discovered new hobbies while others just took the time to focus on projects they had at home. I’m sure many cosplayers used this as an opportunity to come up with new ideas or fine tune cosplays that they already in the works, resulting in some of the great stuff I saw at the convention.
One thing I do regret coming out of Wondercon is not taking the time to get more social media information from people I met. I’m still trying to grow my audience and while a lot of people will tell you that it’s a difficult task today’s age of social media can potentially make it a lot easier to do. Making sure to find those out who those people are and properly credit them can really benefit me not just on social media but also with SEO. Oh well, I guess it’s something I really need to keep in mind at the next convention.
Anyway, here are the cosplayers of Wondercon 2022.
Here’s a tiny Boba Fett complete with a laser pistol and jet pack.
Here are some people wearing the clown masks from the bank robbery scene at the beginning of The Dark Knight. A lot of people might not know this but those guys actually had specific names other than just being referred to as bank robber 1, 2, etc… On the left is Bozo who would turn out to be the Joker and on the right is Grumpy. Fun fact, the mask that the Joker wore in that scene is supposed to be an homage to Cesar Romero who wore a similar mask in his first appearance in the 1966 Batman television series when he was disguised as Pagliacci.
Bob and Linda Belcher from Bob’s Burgers. The plate of mini burgers and the burger of the day chalk board are good touches.
Raiden from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. If this guy looks familiar it’s because he was at LA Comic Con in the same costume and I posted pics of him on Instagram. Like I said earlier with the whole social media thing, I should have really figured out who he is so I can give him proper credit but unfortunately while I was able to find more pictures of him I haven’t found anything saying who he is.
Here’s Roger P AKA Hummin_H2 as the Juggernaut. From what I saw online this guy is known for his really big and elaborate cosplays. In fact, looking at Instagram it turns he was the one who tried to pull off the big Sentinel costume at LA Comic Con before ditching it in favor of Red Hulk.
A Vaporeon, Umbreon and Sylveon-inspired trio. Looking back at these 3 I’m wondering if they were part of a larger group that covered all of the Eeveelutions.
Jinx from League of Legends.
Sailors Uranus and Neptune from Sailor Moon.
A very clever rendition of Magnemite from the first generation of Pokemon.
Lady Alcina Dimitrescu and her vampire children from Resident Evil Village. Maybe it’s the black sleeveless tops but for some reason the guys in the front are giving me a Cobra Kai-vibe.
A Beetlejuice group cosplay. Beetlejuice and Miss Argentina are pretty obvious but the guy in the back is something I’m sure most might overlook, but he’s dressed as Alec Baldwin’s character Adam Maitland.
Two Coastal Defender Stormtroopers who are probably best known for their appearances in Rogue One and Star Wars Battlefront II.
Figure_X as Boba Fett with the Mandalorian in his Beskar armor.
A pair of generic steampunk cosplayers. The plague mask seems like an appropriate thing to wear given the times, I’m just surprised I didn’t see more of those around the convention.
A Dragonball Z family cosplay. The detail on Broly and Beerus is pretty impressive.
Red Sonja in her iconic chainmail bikini.
Solid Snake with his stinger missile launcher.
A Batman wearing a Dark Knight/Dark Knight Rises-era batsuit.
Jill Valentine in her STARS uniform from the original Resident Evil.
Moon Knight.
A really cool Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles group cosplay. Although it is a mix of eras. The Shredder is wearing the maroon costume he wore in the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie while April is wearing the iconic yellow jumpsuit from the ’80s/’90s cartoon.
Louis Tully as Vinz Clortho and Dana Barret as Zuul from Ghostbusters.
A Spartan from Halo with a very big flamethrower.
The Mandalorian in his Beskar armor.
Lighting from Final Fantasy XIII.
Sokka from Avatar: The Last Airbender wearing the Southern Water Tribe’s wolf armor. You can tell this guy is supposed to be Sokka because he has the black jian sword AKA the space sword that he got in Book 3.
Another shot of that Lady Dimitrescu with 1 of her daughters.
Here’s something that took me a while to figure out, but that was only because she was with a group cosplaying as Death Watch from Mandalorian. It wasn’t until I posted a pic of her on social media with my corgi that I was able to get a clear answer from the comments, but she is Liliana Vess from Magic: The Gathering.
Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus with her pet lizard Liz.
A Harley Quinn. I like the usage of the white facepaint and bodysuit since most of Harley’s appearances in the comics and cartoons depict her with white skin.
A Rick and Morty.
Nanu nanu. Here’s a cosplay I doubt you would have ever thought you’d see, it’s Mork from Mork and Mindy.
The Red Skull from Captain America: First Avengers/Avengers: Infinity War. When I first saw this guy I honestly thought it was make up at first. It wasn’t until I got closer that I realized he was just wearing a mask.
Princess Zelda circa Breath of the Wild.
A group of Star Wars cosplayers. From left to right you have Bossk’wassak’Cradossk AKA Bossk, a Togruta female, Fennec Shand, and Black Krrsantan.
Here’s a really good Pickle Rick in his Rat Suit by Joe Mackey aka mojitojoe77 on Instagram.
Then the guy dressed as the Jared Leto Joker decided to get involved giving him his crowbar.
Before photobombing with that stupid mouth tattoo on his hand.
Keith and Lance from the Netflix’s Voltron: The Legendary Defender.
A girl dressed with a Minecraft-inspired cosplay.
OC.Chron.Cosplay dressed as the Sinister Six.
Three versions of the MCU incarnation of Iron Man.
Itspeachygigi as Sonic the Hedgehog.
Here’s a pretty obscure character, it is Jacqueline Goehner as Dejah Thoris, the princess of Helium and John Carter’s wife from Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Martian novel series.
This is one of my favorite cosplays from Wondercon 2022 since it is a character from one of my favorite television shows. It is Muscle Bro Cosplay as Muscle Man from Regular Show.
Unfortunately I can’t remember what these guys are from. Hell I’m not even sure if they’re all from the same universe. All I know is that they look pretty cool.
An Adepta Sororitas aka Sister of Battle from Warhammer 40k.
Jynxeee as Scar from The Lion King. This took me forever to figure out. If I didn’t find her on Instagram and read the captions on her posts I would have never figured out what she was.
Nikkimoxxi as Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon aka Ciri from The Witcher.
Another cosplayer that I’m honestly not sure what her costume is from.
A DC group of cosplayers made up of Blackfire, Starfire, and a Green Lantern. The little props they have to represent their powers are clever little touches.
Officer Judy Hopps from Disney’s Zootopia.
The Young Justice cartoon versions of Artemis and Cheshire.
A Dark Knight Rises version of Bane.
Here’s cosplayer thetinygeek as Halo’s Master Chief alongside an ODST. As far as costumes go thetinygeek had one of the best ones at the show. Not only did he have the Mjolnir suit down, but he had the MA5B rifle and also some weathering on his armor which made an already impressive cosplay even better.
I’m like 90% sure these guys are supposed to be from League of Legends. If they are then I’m guessing we have two version of Nurse Akali, and Singed. I’m honestly not sure there’s like 140 characters in League of Legends and each 1 has several different skins.
Ed and Faye from Cowboy Bebop.
A punk rock spin on Jubilee from X-Men.
Princess Peach and a twist on Bowser from Super Mario Bros.
Another really good ODST from Halo.
Morrigan from Darkstalkers.
Joelynncosplay as the Street Fighter 2 version of Cammy White.
Callisto and Xena from Xena: Warrior Princess.
Vision and Scarlet Witch. Judging by the costumes, I’m guessing that these two were inspired from the “All-new Halloween Spooktacular!” episode of Wandavision where Vision and Wanda dressed up as their comicbook counterparts for Halloween.
Fuzzyotool as Wolverine’s alter ego Patch. Actually, looking at this costume I want to say this was inspired by the recent Wolverine: Patch miniseries.
And I’ll close this out with azamandayoung as Amanda Young from Saw. One thing I really like about her costume is that she didn’t just make her own reverse bear trap and call it a day. No she’s actually wearing clothing similar to what Shawnee Smith wore for that scene. Even the tape around her wrist from where she was restrained to the chair are really good details.
Don’t believe me? Here’s the scene and watch it for yourself. The color isn’t exactly spot on, but the arm sleeves make it pretty clear what she was going for.
That’s it for my cosplayers of Wondercon 2022, it was tempting to split this post up to make it easier to digest, but the number of images isn’t that much to digest and at this point I’m already more than 3 months after the Wondercon and I’m about to leave for San Diego Comic Con so I really need to haul ass. I still have 2 more posts to crank out from Wondercon which I’m hoping to get out before San Diego Comic Con officially starts. Wish me luck on that and don’t forget to come back for those and the San Diego stuff.
