Damn, the end of March/beginning of April was a really busy time for me. I already mentioned how right after I got back from C2E2 I had WonderCon the following weekend, but the weekend after WonderCon was also the weekend of the 2019 SoCal Corgi Beach Day or as they were calling it this year: Corgchella.

In my posts from the last SoCal Corgi Beach Day I went to I talked about how I’m not sure how I can tell a new story from SoCal Corgi Beach Day. This is my 4th time attending a SoCal Corgi Beach Day and there isn’t that much of a difference between the first event I went to and the last. I could talk about how much Corgi Beach Day has grown, how they’ve attracted so many vendors and so many more dogs but how many times can I really say that?

Honestly, the only reason I really started going to Corgi Beach Day was because I really wanted a corgi so I would go with the intention of meeting a breeder or at the very least getting a referral from other corgi owners.

If you follow me on social media or know me in real life you would have learned that at this Corgi Beach Day I finally achieved my goal because I met somebody who hooked me up with a corgi puppy of my very own. Having a dog has been a learning experience for me. Other than pet sitting for my cousin I really don’t have that much experience having a dog. The last time I had a dog of my own was this collie we had when I was 5 and when we got him he was already 2 years old and he was an outdoor dog because we also had a really big backyard so we never trained him, we just let him run around free outside on his own. Having to care for a dog that lives inside fulltime has been different and it’s also eaten up a lot of time which is why I’ve been slower than usual with site updates. Right now, it’s just a huge change to my routine but I’m hoping soon I’ll be able to find a way to balance everything especially once we get all his training done.

Even though I can’t really find a way to pull a story out of going to Corgi Beach Day, I did find it be a good experience because of all the photography practice I managed to get out of it. I’m so used to shooting photos of still subjects like toys and people at conventions who are posing. Shooting dogs on the other hand is something different, these dogs are either moving or are only willing to sit still for a few moments so it’s good practice to get some action shots and be able to photograph things on the fly.

Honestly I don’t know how to tell a good story from this year’s So Cal Corgi Beach Day. All I can really give you are the highlights.

Enjoy!

Getting to Corgchella, the first corgi that caught my eye was this girl who was going full derp face with her extra long tongue.

I caught this guy taking a break from playing in the sand with their human.

This picture I honestly feel there’s nothing special about it. He looks great posing, smiling, and staring directly at the camera, but this wasn’t my intended goal. I wanted shots that were more candid and on the fly. Honestly, the only reason I didn’t throw this out was because I thought it was a good portrait shot.

This guy wearing his sunglasses and giving that casual look to the side in the second photo it just really reminds me of those scenes in movies and TV shows where a character goes into work hung over or high and tries to cover it up by hiding under sunglasses.

With this picture I feel I did a really good job of capturing those puppy dog eyes…

As well as capturing the moment she flashes her puppy dog eyes at her owner. I wouldn’t be surprised if she got treats shortly after this was taken.

Judging by the sand on his mouth I feel I caught this guy right after he had his face buried in the sand. Catching him looking off to the side I can almost hear him saying “What? Do I have something on my face.”

I caught this guy in a Hawaiian shirt digging a hole…

…Right before sticking his face in the hole to keep himself cool.

This 1 I really like because he’s wearing the shit out of that hat.

This another photo I thought came out well, the depth of field was pretty spot on.

Out of all the corgis I saw that day this was the only Cardigan Welsh Corgi I saw. I saw a few full-grown ones as I wandered around but this was seriously the only Cardigan puppy I came across.

With his super white coat it is pretty easy to confuse this corgi with Winston the White Corgi. Although being the big corgiphile that I am I know that Winston now lives on the East Coast and was not expected to make an appearance at Corgchella.

Here’s a family trying to get their Corgi into a K9SportSack. The looks he’s giving are priceless.

Eventually they were able to get him inside and he was loving it.

This guy I felt was one of the most photogenic corgis I came across that day which is why I decided to keep so many photos of him. It was just too hard to decide which were the best.

Here’s a little chihuahua sitting tight in his K9SportSack.

Another cute little guy who was too tired and had to be carried.

I really found it funny to see this German Shepherd getting his derp on.

Here’s corgi who was looking pretty dapper with her sunglasses…

…before she decided she didn’t want to wear them anymore.

But her owner thought she still looked cute without them.

This guy I thought looked really cool with his sunglasses.

While this guy I thought didn’t seem as cool because he had his tongue just flopping out there.

Seeing this 1 running around with the fake butterfly wings strapped to her back reminds me of this story I heard about how corgis were a gift from fairies who rode them as steeds and used them them to pull their carriages.

This I thought was 1 of my best pictures. Everybody knows that dogs get to know each other by sniffing each other’s butts and that tricolor corgi looks like he has his entire head shoved in there. It took me a couple closer looks to see that this isn’t actually the case.

Speaking of butt-sniffing from this angle it looks like that other tri-color wants to get in on the action.

With his sunglasses and Hawaiian shirt this guy reminds me of Slurms McKenzie from that episode of Futurama where they did a parody of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.

If I didn’t catch this guy blinking this photo would have come out a lot better.

Lucky for me he was still willing to give me some more tongue action.

With the goggles, lei and sunhat I found this one to be very photogenic.

This 1 I thought looked really cute wearing oversized goggles that are obviously made for humans.

With Easter around the corner at the time I’m surprised I didn’t see more corgis wearing rabbit ears.

As crazy as I am for corgis I draw the line at getting a corgi tattoo.

Here’s an extra fluffy Pomeranian. It’s hard to tell where the fluff ends and the dog begins.

Another corgi that enjoys being carried but is unfortunately suffering from limp ear syndrome.

This 1 is looking super sassy with her sunglasses and heavily decorated wagon.

I thought this was an okay picture of me catching a corgi just casually lounging in the sand. Although I do regret not lying in the sand on my belly to get a better angle.

Another corgi whom I thought I did a good job nailing the depth of field.

Here’s me perving on some corgi’s momo.

This guy looked sad and didn’t want any pets. I’m guessing he was just exhausted from all the fun he must have been having.

This girl was probably the derpiest one at the beach.

Here’s a good photo I caught of another corg enjoying the fact that he doesn’t have to walk thanks to his human and his K9 Sport Sack.

Here’s Gustaff, a corgi I follow on social media. I was a bit surprised as big as Corgchella he was the only corgi I ran into that I follow on social media. I’m sure there’s a good chance I ran into others I probably just didn’t recognize them.

Finally, I’m going to end this post with this little guy that I ran into while leaving Corgchella.

Thanks for checking out my post on Corgchella 2019. Stay tuned the next big thing I’ll be attending is San Diego Comic Con which I’m really excited for and I plan to bring back a lot of stuff from that. Until then I’ll try to get a few more posts up on toys, movies, and TV shows.
