Gallery Nucleus comes through with another great exhibition. This one a celebration of the 20th anniversary of a product of the Disney Renaissance of the ’90s: Mulan.
Based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan and featuring Asian actors for a majority of the main cast including the main character, Mulan did in the ’90s what Crazy Rich Asians is doing now and that is shining a positive light on Asian culture.
Originally I was unsure about being able to make it to the opening reception for this due to the fact that, we were in the process of celebrating my Dad’s birthday this week and I was afraid that some of the activities would prevent me from going. Luckily, my parents were really understanding in me wanting to go opening night because they know that this site is more than just a hobby for me. It’s also my portfolio and my resume and that if I am going to succeed with this site I need to be cranking out some awesome content.
I’m glad we were able to make it to the opening reception because a special guest at the event was Ming-Na Wen, the voice of Mulan and currently one of the stars of ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get a picture of her or with her due to the fact that there was a bit of a crowd around her and she wasn’t there that long, but trust me she was there and I was standing like 10 feet from her. Also, apparently another special guest was Tony Bancraft, the director of Mulan. I didn’t recognize him while I was there nor did I know who he was. I just glancing over to a corner of the gallery and seeing this guy being swarmed by all these people and it wasn’t until I got home and started looking up Mulan and this event to come up with the write up that I learned woh he was.
Like past Disney-themed exhibitions that Gallery Nucleus has held, the Mulan Anniversary exhibition was a collaborative effort between Gallery Nucleus, Disney Fine Art, Cyclops Print Works, and Oh My Disney! And featured over 40 pieces by like 37 or so artists. Going through the list of contributing artists I saw a lot of familiar names which is once again making me wonder if these people are go to artist for Gallery Nucleus whenever they have a themed-exhibition, or if they just really love Nucleus and are always cranking stuff out for them.
Looking back at my photos I think I’ve started getting the hang at photographing pieces at Gallery Nucleus. In the past I’ve ranted about how difficult it can be shooting at art galleries such as Nucleus and other places due to having inconsistent lighting and also trying to combat glare and reflections due to the pieces being behind glass. I’ve also learned that wide-angle lenses work really well for photographing art pieces since I can set the F-stop on maximum and not worry about having too shallow of a depth of field due to the focal length being so short. Sorry about drifting off topic with this but I’m just really proud of myself for figuring this out which means in the future you can start expecting better quality photos.
Until then enjoy the photos I have right now.

On top of all the tribute pieces Gallery Nucleus also had on display these pieces which I’m guessing are original concept art and designs from the movie. I tried to get as much of it as I could but unfortunately due to the crowds, the poor lighting, and also because of the limitations of the equipment I brought I wasn’t able to photograph all of it.
Thanks for checking this out. Also please check back soon because I also have photos of Gallery Nucleus’s Dapper Dogs exhibitions and also LA Comic Con just happened and I have a lot to share from there.
