I feel proud of myself. I got the first part of my WonderCon 2018 stuff up just a few days after the event and I have part 1 of my cosplay stuff up fairly quick. This is a big improvement over when I first started my site and I was months late getting things up.

The quality of costumes at WonderCon was pretty good this year. I don’t think I saw anything that was poorly painted or obviously made out of cardboard. In fact, my mom was even telling me how she thought th costumes at WonderCon looked way better than what we’ve seen at either the LA or Long Beach Comic Cons. Even though the quality was there I was a bit surprised that quantity wasn’t. Looking back I think there were actually a few times where’d I’d be walking down a vendor row and I would not see anybody in costume.

I think I’m starting to get the whole photography aspect down. I’m no longer finding myself just shooting. I noticed I started paying more attention to how the lightning is and I’ll start moving to get a better angle for optimal lighting. I should really start considering bringing my speedlight with me to conventions. I just hope this won’t lead to me turning into one of those guys who brings a wagon full of gear or having minions follow me around with flashes on poles.

Until I figure out how to use flashes you’re going to have to settle for pictures that don’t use flashes like the ones below.

Enoy!

Here’s an Ursula from Little Mermaid and Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty. Their costumes aren’t that bad but I think Maleficent could use the staff/magic wand.

A Doctor Fate and Doctor Strange. I like the embroidery on the trim of his cape. It’s tiny details like that that really make the costume.

Here’s a transgender Zatanna. My dad told me she works with him at UPS as a tug driver or something along those lines.

Ming the Merciless from Flash Gordon. This reminds me. Sam Jones wasn’t there this year.

Trinity, Neo, and Morpheus from circa Matrix Reloaded. The sword on Morpheus’s back is a dead give away it was Matrix Reloaded cause that was the one where he was fighting the albino twins and at one point used a katana on them.

An Assassin. Not sure which Assassin’s Creed he’s from though. I’m thinking his costume is either an original setup or from one of the Assassin’s Creed Chronicles game.

Professor Sybill Trelawney from the Harry Potter movies.

Trevor Slattery/The fake Mandarin from Iron Man 3.

A Guy Gardner Green Lantern. Usually when I see a Green Lantern cosplayer it’s usually somebody who just throws together an original costume. It’s nice to see somebody take the time to model their costume on a character’s canonical look. According to Wikipedia Guy Gardner was modeled on Martin Milner, an American actor whose probably best known for his work in the ’60s and ’70s in Adam-12 and Route 66.

Ruby Rhod from the Fifth Element. I didn’t realize this guy’s movement was causing a blur with a shutter speed of 1/100 of a second.

This guy’s deep sea diver outfit was pretty cool. You can’t see it in this photo but he had a bubble machine setup in his helmet which gave it a cool effect.

An elf and hobbit from Tolkien mythology. I should really rewatch those movies so I can tell who’s who.

Suicide Girls was on site as one of the vendors at WonderCon this year and one of the girls there made a pretty good Morrigan from Darkstalkers/Night Warriors.

Vivi Ornithier, the black mage from Final Fantasy IX.

A Queen Mera and Supergirl.

Here’s a tiny Wonder Woman that a lot of people thought was really cute.

Here’s a Belle in her ballroom gown from Beauty and the Beast. Good touch walking around with Lumiere.

Hawkgirl and Hawkman. Good touch with the maces. It was also very smart to make their wings folded so they don’t take up that much room and it would be easier for them to move around.

Here’s a Scout Trooper and some Ewoks from The Return of the Jedi.

A black costume Spiderman. I’m curious if this is the same guy from last year who spent the Con squatting on a light and who I think I saw at Long Beach Comic Con squatting on a trash can.

This guy’s Boba Fett is pretty good but for some reason the undersuit under the armor is really bugging me.

Princess Leia circa New Hope and a Jyn Erso. Princess Leia having the Defender sporting blaster pistol was a good touch. Also I didn’t notice this when I originally took the picture but huge props to her for exercising proper trigger discipline even if it is only a prop.

An Iron Man and Iron Woman. I like how the guy went all in to model his entire look on Tony Stark/Robert Downey Jr.

Some Slave Princess Leia/Disney Villainess mashups. From left to right you have Cruella De Ville, Elsa, Maleficent and I’m not sure who the last 1 is. Maybe Mother Gothel from Tangled?

Here’s a Carmen Sandiego. Judging by the black shirt underneath she’s modeled her look on a newer incarnation.

A Rule 63 version of Chucky from Rugrats.

Another Belle from Beauty and the Beast. She did a really good job getting her hair right.

Mystique from the X-Men Movies.

Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather, the fairy godmothers from Sleeping Beauty.

Mei from Overwatch with a big ass gun. You can’t see it from this angle but that thing is almost as big as her.

Here’s another Belle this 1 with a hoop skirt. The hoop skirt isn’t just for looks it also hides a stool underneath her dress which she was using when she wanted to take breaks or be comfortable while people were photographing her.

Fred and Wilma Flintstone. This is actually a first for me. In all the years I’ve been going to conventions I don’t’ think I’ve ever seen Flintstones cosplayers.

Rose Quartz from Steven Universe. I think I really need to add that show to the list of things I need to watch.

A Rule 63 Squirrel Girl.

Shino Asada from Sword Art Online.

Another Mei and Junkrat from Overwatch.

Bayonetta from the game of the same name. I feel kind of bad for pointing this out but I couldn’t help but stare at the fact that the gun heel on her farthest foot broke off and she had to tape it up.

This girl’s costume looks familiar but I honestly can’t put my finger on where it’s from.

Cinderella and Prince Charming. They were asking if I had a card to give her so she could find this picture online but unfortunately I don’t have any. Hopefully she finds this.

This is a good place to stop. I still have another 50 photos of cosplayers to go through and hopefully I should have this up within the next few days.

Thanks for stopping by.
