I know that LA Comic Con was way back in October/November of last year and I meant to get this up sooner but so much shit got in the way. I mean first there was me actually buying the domain name and the template to set this site up. Then there was me trying to figure out all this stuff in the back end so this site won’t look like total crap, but then I saw the level of customization I had access to and realized that I had way more work ahead of me than I thought I did. On top of that too I went to the Philippines for three weeks and right before I got back I ended up catching a nasty stomach thing from drinking contaminated water so that was another week gone. Anyway, once I got back to this thing I realized I should put customization on the back burner right now. I know this site looks like crap at the moment but I also need content for this thing so I figure I’ll try to clean it up as I go along.
Speaking of content, like I said before I know I’m way late with this shit but sorry. I’ll try to get content up faster and up on a more regular basis. I just got back from Wondercon and I’m hoping to get that up soon after this. I also have all these ideas for posts, that don’t involve having to go to events, however they do require quite a bit of work as well as me taking the pics and actually sitting down and writing them so be patient as I try to crank those out.
Anyway, last year I went to Stan Lee’s LA Comic Con 2017. This is my 4th time at this event, originally it was called Stan Lee’s Comikaze but they changed it to Stan Lee’s Comic Con which I’m guessing is for branding reasons because it seems like everybody is calling their conventions “Wherever the Hell you are Comic Con.” Out of the last four years this seemed to be the busiest year I’ve gone. It took us forever just to get our passes so we could go in and even more time just to find parking. Because of these delays I’m a little bummed that we missed out on some of the stuff that was going on on the main stage. Even though I missed out on some of the scheduled events I still had a good time, I saw a lot of cool stuff and a lot of people in cool costumes.
At this point I think I’ve gone long enough, here are my pics, enjoy!
Some R2 droids from the R2D2 Builders Club.
I think she’s supposed to be Steampunk Samus Aran. I’m not 100% sure.
A Mandalorian warrior. At first I’m thinking he’s Jango Fett but I kind of doubt it since Jango’s armor was more silver and had less blue accents and also Jango used dual pistls and not a rifle.
Here’s a vendor booth selling some Mega Man helmets. Unfortunately I didn’t see any adult sizes.
Here are some Tamashii Nations Samurai-themed Star Wars figures.
I don’t know why but I’m not a real big fan of their Samurai General Darth Vader.
I do like this Teppo Ashigaru Storm Trooper though.
I also like their Ronin Boba Fett.
I really don’t like the Taikoyaku Storm Trooper either. I think it’s just cause his big ass drum makes him look kind of lame.
Here’s a Tamashii Nations Samurai Spiderman.
Some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures that are obviously modeled after the 1987 cartoon versions.
Some life sized Iron Man mannequins done up in Iron Man armor were on display.
Here’s the Mark III movie armor.
Helmetless Tony Stark. It can be yours for the low low price of $12,000.
They even had a full size Hulkbuster on display.
Here are some Super Mario Bros. 2 Shy Guys.
I think she’s a gender swapped Monkey D. Luffy from One Piece. I never watched One Piece so I’m not 100% sure.
These inflatable T-Rex costume guys are always fun.
At the time of LA Comic Con the season 7 premiere of Walking Dead had aired the previous week. This dude was supposed to be Glenn and he basically ran up to everybody he could find dressed as Negan and insisted on posing this way for photos.
Back to the Future III Marty McFly.Walking around in a pair of Nike sneakers while holding his boots in his hand was a good touch, since in the movie Michael J. Fox was forced to walk to town in his Nikes because a bear got his boots.
I’m not exactly quite sure who those chick is supposed to be but she’s hot so who cares?
Here’s Geoff Pasqual’s booth setup. I really like his stuff.
Some really good zombies showcasing the skills of the students of the Cinema Makeup School.
I like this dude’s Linda Belcher from Bob’s Burgers. The Spice Rack from the episode, “Topsy” was a good touch.
Some censored boobs on this piece. I feel really bad I can’t remember the artists’s name.
Really good Penguin costume. The monocle and cigarette holder really added to the look.
Dude on stilts in a Megatron costume.
Here’s a Dr. Who. Unfortunately I can’t think off the top of my head which 1 he is.
This guy had one of the more original costumes. It’s Henry Jones Sr. from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. He looks like a pretty legit Sean Connery.
Fairy princess lady costume? I feel bad for not knowing for sure.
Poison Ivy and a Suicide Squad version of Harley Quinn.
Demonic wind up dolls? I feel bad for not knowing what these are from either. Although who knows since this event was held right before Halloween.
Here we have Elvira Mistress of Darkness with either people from Book of Life or people dressed for the Day of the Dead.
Little Bo Peep. She was kind of annoying in that every time somebody asked to take a picture with her she would insist on putting the hook on her shepherd’s staff around their neck.
Flash! Ah ha! Savior of the universe! Flash Gordon aka Sam Jones was here.
Here’s Ms. Dita Von Tease from like 30 feet away. Maybe I shouldn’t have been such a cheapskate and walked up and paid her fee to take her photo.
Back to the Future II Marty McFly and Doc Brown.
Here’s a big black dude in a loin cloth who was there helping to promote another dude’s book.
Mannequin in a sexy Catwoman costume with really pointy nipples.
Here’s a nice family cosplay as the cast of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Too bad they didn’t adopt a little Asian kid to be Shortround.
I think this is an Orc from Warcraft. I’m not sure since I never really got into Warcraft or World of Warcraft.
A forest nymph who was walking around showing off the skills of the students of the EI School of Professional Makeup.
A Clone Trooper from the 501st Legion.
Here’s one of the better Deadpools that was there.
Here’s David Yost AKA Billy Cranston original Blue Power Ranger. From what I read online the reason why he quit Power Rangers was because he was gay and he was constantly being teased about it. Then one day he had a nervous breakdown and literally just walked off set and never came back. I remember watching his last episode on Power Rangers Zeo. The story is Billy was infected with like an alien disease and he had to go to another planet for treatment. They made him do a video goodbye to the rest of the cast. If I remember correctly it was just a video of his face on a really staticky screen and it was voiced over by somebody who obviously wasn’t him.
Here’s Austin St. John, the original Red Ranger. For 40 bucks he’ll leave you a voice mail.
Here’s Walter Jones the original Black Ranger. I kind of wished I got closer to him because he’s missing a finger and I really wanted to see it.
Another Suicide Squad Harley Quinn this time with a Suicide Squad Joker.
Beetlejuice and Lydia Deetz from the Beetlejuice animated series.
EI School of Professional Makeup and Cinema Makeup School removing makeup as well as demonstrating the whole movie makeup process.
This Richard Simmons costume was very original.
Here’s the lovely Joanie Brosas as Vampirella
While I was waiting for a picture with Joanie Brosas I decided to get some shots of this post-apocalyptic cowboy Wolverine.
Next to Joanie Brosas’s was the equally lovely Megan Golden as Rey from Force Awakens
Ivy Doomkitty was supposed to be there but I guess she was on her lunch break. In her booth I found this dude dressed as Link eating a burger and fries.
This other guy who I guess is supposed to be Agent Venom was also in Ivy’s booth.
I’m not sure what this guy was supposed to be but his costume was pretty damn impressive.
I was pretty close to the main stage at this point so I decided to look over and see what was going on. At the time they had this Star Trek reunion thing going on.
Nichelle Nichols and Walter Koenig were on there.
Denise Crosby aka Lieutenant Tasha Yar, aka Mama Cannibal from that storyline on the Walking Dead aka the mom from Pet Semetary was also on there.
A really good Cammy from Street Fighter II.
Let’s get dangerous. I like this guy’s Darkwing Duck complete with a gas gun.
I remember I first met this guy at San Diego Comic Con 2015 where he was a really good Jack Sparrow. I’m like 99% sure he’s of those guys who dresses up as a celebrity and takes pictures with tourists on Hollywood Boulevard. Anyway, this year it looks like he decided to do a Jack Sparrow/Edward Scissorhands mashup.
Here’s Chewbacca the Wookie posing with a Snow White/Mandalore mashup.
Here’s a really thrilling Michael Jackson.
This guy’s Spawn costume is pretty good. It almost looks like the one Michael Jai White wore in the 1997 movie.
Ghost in the Shell robotic Geishas.
Here’s another pervy mannequin in a Yvonne Craig Batgirl costume. Seriously what the hell is with the nipples on these things?
I bumped into artist David Mack there.
Here’s a booth model trying to sell art.
This Princess Zelda and Ganondorf. Was really good.
Here’s another Stormtrooper. The battle damage on his armor was a really good touch.
Here’s a Deadpool/Baymax mash up.
During a break from the main hall I saw this dude in a lifesized Hulkbuster suit. This was hands down the best costumes I saw at this event.
Here’s a pretty good Black Canary.
I wasn’t able to see the real Kevin Smith but I did meet this guy dressed as him.
Here’s a No Face from Spirited Away. Took me awhile to get this guy’s attention because they said his vision was so obscured and also he couldn’t hear anything.
Here’s Citrusbell as Mad Moxxi from Borderlands. I kind of wish I got more photos of her but she was really tired and wanted to sit down and I didn’t want to be a dick and ask her to get up for me.
Here’s Kratos from the God of War series.
Here’s an Apocalypse from X-Men. Not sure which incarnation of X-Men he’s supposed to be from. He is a little bit reminiscent of the version from the X-Men Legend series but he doesn’t entirely match that version.
Here’s a really good Lizard which was done by one of the make up schools.
At this point my parents wanted to go home so we started walking towards the other side of the Staples Center.
Right outside of the convention center was this dude in a Pikachu costume.
This dude had a really good Voldemort costume.
Here’s some Overwatch chicks. From left to right you have: D.Va, Mei and Zarya.
A female version of the Arkham Asylum-version of the Scarecrow.
To close out this post I’m going to end it with one of the more original costumes I saw which was this Robot Chicken.
Thanks for checking out my post like I said sorry for the delay. I promise I’ll do a better job of being more prompt putting stuff and I’ll also make it a habit of posting stuff regularly.
